Dialogue 1: Stylist: Hello! Welcome to Amy's Salon. How can we help you today?
Customer: Hello, I'd like a trim please.
Stylist: Sure thing. Why don't we start off by washing your hair?
Customer: I just shampooed my hair an hour ago. Can we make this quick? I just need a slight trim.
Stylist: Alright. Please take a seat over here. (begins cutting hair…)
Customer: I think that's a little too long. Could you cut the top a little shorter, please?
Stylist: If you're going to cut the top that short, then might I suggest that you fade the sides a little shorter as well?
Customer: Well… alright. I usually leave the sides a little long, but I guess I can try something new today.
(continues cutting hair…)
Stylist: You certainly have a lot of hair. It must be hard to style sometimes.
Customer: No kidding. I have to use a ridiculous amount of gel to get my hair to stay.
Stylist: Would you like me to thin it out a little bit?
Customer: You can do that?
Stylist: Of course. I just have to use this pair of thinning shears, see?
Customer: Wow, alright. Go ahead.
Stylist: See? Now your hair is much more manageable. How does it feel?
Customer: It feels a lot lighter than before. And my hair looks much more clean cut! I think I like this new look. My girlfriend is always complaining that my hair looks too greasy.
Stylist: I'm glad you like it. Let me just tidy up the sides and the back for you. (A few minutes later…) There, all finished. Would you like me to use some hairspray or mousse?
Customer: I usually apply gel.
Stylist: I know. Your hair is a lot thinner than before, though, so you don't need to use anything as strong as gel. A little hairspray or a handful of mousse should give your hair that extra flair without making it look too greasy.
Customer: You're the stylist. Work your magic.
Stylist: How's that? Anything you want to change?
Customer: No, that's perfect. Thanks a lot for your help.
Stylist: No problem at all. Your total comes out to be $15.
Customer: Here's a $20. Keep the change.
Stylist: Thank you very much, sir. I appreciate it. Stop by again.
Dialogue 2: Boy: Mom! Stop dragging me!
Mom: (to stylist) Can you help us, please?
Stylist: What's the problem?
Mom: It's my son. He was playing with a pair of clippers when he… (shows stylist the back of her son's head)
Stylist: Oh my. (notices a large patch missing from the back right side) How did you manage to do that?
Boy: (grins) If you think that's bad, you should see our dog.
Mom: (sighs with exasperation) You realize you're grounded for a month. I don't think that's anything for you to be happy about. (to stylist) Is there anything you can do?
Stylist: Well… it looks like your son normally has pretty long hair, am I right? A patch like that is going to be really noticeable as long as he keeps his hair long. I think maybe a sport or a buzz cut would work.
Boy: No, I don't want to be bald like Dad!
Mom: Well, you can't go around with that patch on your head! You brought this upon yourself.
Boy: (not listening, begins throwing a tantrum) No, no, no!
Stylist: Short hair is not all that bad. In fact, there are plenty of great cuts for you to choose from. You could get a Caesar cut like George Clooney…
Boy: No, no, no!
Stylist: Or you could get a mohawk… (gets a warning look from the mother)
Boy: (stops yelling and smiles) Yeah, mohawk!
Mom: You are not getting a mohawk!
(Boy throws a tantrum for 15 minutes until his mother finally gives in)
Mom: Alright! Enough already! You can get a mohawk!
Boy: (throws himself into the chair) Alright!
Stylist: (to mother, in an aside) Don't worry. You can always chop off the mohawk later and convert it into a nice buzz cut.
Mom: (gives a large sigh) My husband is going to throw a fit when he sees this.
He started off as a surgeon after he graduated from medical school.
3. thinning shears
4. hairspray
6. buzz cut
That superstar threw a tantrum at the rehearsal just because the director asked him to revise some words in his play.
9. throw oneself into the chair
11. throw a fit 跟throw a tantrum意思相近,发怒。
